India and Pakistan Agreed to Immediate Ceasefire After US-Mediated Talks

Islamabad/New Delhi: In a surprising turn of events, India and Pakistan have agreed to an immediate ceasefire following high-level talks mediated by the United States.

The announcement was first made by US President Donald Trump on his Truth Social platform, where he expressed his satisfaction over the agreement, calling it a product of "common sense and great intelligence."

President Trump revealed that the ceasefire was reached after a night of intense discussions facilitated by US diplomats.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio also confirmed the development, commending the leadership of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for their "wisdom, prudence, and statesmanship." Rubio emphasized the significance of the decision, especially after days of escalating hostilities between the two nuclear-armed neighbors.

US Vice President JD Vance, who had recently downplayed American involvement in the conflict, also endorsed the ceasefire announcement.

Meanwhile, Pakistan's Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar acknowledged the agreement in a post on X, affirming that Islamabad has always pursued regional peace without compromising its sovereignty.

According to sources, the ceasefire understanding was directly brokered between the Indian and Pakistani governments. Pakistan's Director General of Military Operations reportedly initiated contact with his Indian counterpart, leading to a mutual decision to halt all military actions immediately.

India's Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri confirmed the ceasefire between Pakistan and India, stating that "the Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) of Pakistan contacted his Indian counterpart at 3:35 PM (Indian Standard Time) today, and it was mutually agreed that a complete ceasefire would be observed between Pakistan and India on land, air, and sea from 5:00 PM IST." He further added that the two countries would resume communication again on May 12 at 12:00 PM IST.

The situation had become increasingly volatile, with Pakistan launching a military operation in response to what it described as Indian strikes on its military installations.

Pakistan maintained that it had acted in self-defense, countering Indian aggression effectively. The flare-up followed a massacre in Indian-controlled Kashmir, which New Delhi blamed on Pakistan, leading to India’s initiation of "Operation Sindoor" targeting areas in Pakistan and Pakistan-administered Kashmir.
